Legal Assistant Position

Meyer Capel, A Professional Corporation, is seeking a professional legal assistant to support attorneys in our Champaign office in the practice area of family law. Prior experience in family law cases such as divorce, child support, child custody, and adoption is preferred, but the firm is willing to train and invest in a less experienced but otherwise highly qualified candidate with the ambition and drive to excel in the legal field.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support attorneys in family law matters by preparing, formatting, proofreading, serving, and filing pleadings, correspondence, discovery materials, financial affidavits, parenting plans, and other legal documents.
• Manage case deadlines and court filings by calendaring hearings, due dates, service deadlines, and other important events while ensuring compliance with court rules, e-filing procedures, and service requirements.
• Organize and maintain client and case materials including pleadings, exhibits, discovery responses, financial documents, correspondence, court orders, and other paper or electronic records.
• Coordinate communications, meetings, and logistics with attorneys, clients, courts, opposing counsel, guardians ad litem, experts, and vendors, including scheduling conferences, hearings, depositions, and client meetings.
• Assist with administrative and practice-management workflows by supporting conflict checks, engagement letters, attorney calendars, expense reports, invoices, document scanning, electronic file maintenance, and legal case management updates.

If the selected candidate is not already a notary public, they will be expected to cooperate with the firm in applying for a notary license.

The expected pay range for individuals with entry-level to three years of experience is $21.00 to $23.00 per hour.
